About Me!

I wish I could tell you that I came out of the womb with a whisk and bag of flour (although I don’t want to imagine how painful that would be for my mother). Sadly, the truth of my love for cooking/baking came about a more unexciting and practical way. You see, my husband, also known as Hot Chocolate ;), and I married very young. We both were in school and had no jobs. We loved to eat and both of us also had zero experience in the kitchen. Tuning my cooking skills came about in these two ways:

  • I moved from the thriving communities of the Bay Area to the Midwest, where Hot Chocolate and I knew no one. I moved in the middle of a snow-packed winter, where leaving the warmth of our home was considered an appalling task.

No Friends + Freezing Temperature = Bored at Home

  • Since we needed to eat and neither of us knew how to cook, we ate out a lot. 4 times a week was considered normal. Soon we realized that going out had begun to lose its appeal, and it also doesn’t hurt to mention that our budget took a hit while the inches on our waistline took a turn upwards.

So basically cooking and perfecting my recipes (I have slight obsessive tendencies wherein I keep experimenting with my recipes until I feel they’re perfect) all started as a way to beat my boredom from being stuck at home in a place where we knew no one. We had lots of hits, and even more misses, but along the way I grew to love the process of bringing ingredients together that resulted in a delicious meal.

I hope my recipes are able to spark the same excitement and love for cooking in you that I experience on a daily basis. Happy cooking friends!
